Compliments of the Mystery

More self-striping hand-dyed sock yarn :) This one is a 3-striper: teal, purple and light gray, on a BFL/nylon high twist yarn base = my fave.

Being Human Stripey Socks

Housemates Socks (Redemptive Love)

Housemates Socks

This is the beginning of my Housemates Socks, knit out of a self-striping yarn I dyed in honour of the Being Human series finale. Very bittersweet, because I absolutely love that show to bits… I’m calling this colourway ‘Redemptive Love’, and if you watched the final episode, you’ll know why…

Knits, Purls and Twists of 2013

Handspun yarn: Malabrigo Nube Cereza

New-to-me in 2013: spindle spinning :)

In my post Knits and Purls of 2012 from around this time last year I wrote a 2012 knitting retrospective of sorts, with lists of things that I had tried or learnt. I’m really happy I did, because it was so much fun going back and reading that post today :)

The following post is for my future self, who hopefully will be equally happy reading this in a year or two..!

Because the Night Stripey Socks

Because the Night Stripey Socks

Do you remember the yarn I showed you the other day, my first attempt at dyeing self striping sock yarn? Here’s what it looks like knit up :)

I’m using 1.75mm/US00 needles, and the design is my own.

Self Striping Sock Yarn!

Because the Night

Because the Night

Here’s my very first attempt at hand dyeing self striping yarn for socks! I’m super happy with how it came out :)

Vampire inspired :) Four colours, 6 rows each in my fave gauge for 4ply/fingering weight socks.

I had so many other ideas for colours and colour combos before I finally decided on this one, so I have a feeling this might be the first in a little collection :) The ‘Mystic Falls’ collection, perhaps? ;)

The yarn base is Super Sock from Bluefaced (425m/100g ; 75% superwashed bluefaced leicester, 25% nylon), and it’s absolutely gorgeous! I love Love LOVE it :) I will most definitely be using it again! I used acid dyes, as usual.

I already have a sock design in mind, can’t wait to get it on the needles..! :)

Hand Dyed: Gothic Byzantium

Semi-Solid Gothic Byzantium

Gothic Byzantium

More yarn out of the dyepot! I was aiming for a dark, subdued, somber, semi-solid purple colour this time; having the shawl design Sweet Dreams by Boo Knits in mind. Perhaps you remember Mishtik, the silk yarn that I dyed a while back; this one is along the very same lines, a second attempt at dyeing that gorgeously gothic and vampire-esq colourway that has kept lingering temptingly in the back of my mind…

Fragile Heart Shawl

Reddest Stolen Cherries

Reddest Stolen Cherries

i’ve dyed the yarn for my Fragile Heart now! i went for a deep, rich, semi-solid cherry red with fuchsia undertones (to symbolize the fragility, and the light shining out from within through the cracks). it’s laceweight baby alpaca, silk & cashmere = fantastic drape, kitten belly soft and absolutely delicious :)
