Enid Ascroft Turkish Spindle

Enid Ashcroft Turkish Spindle

I was gifted this adorable little spindle for my birthday, and I couldn’t wait to start using it! :)

It’s a Mini Turkish Spindle in African Padauk with a Tulipwood shaft, made by Enid Ashcroft, and it’s absolutely gorgeous! It weighs only 15g, isn’t it cute! :) It spins very evenly and for a very long time, it’s really really lovely.

The fibre is 70% merino, 30% mulberry silk top from All the Pretty Fibers on Etsy. Wonderful colours, beautifully dyed, and it drafts beautifully too.

I’m aiming for a thin, worsted style 2-ply yarn this time, hopefully 4ply/fingering weight or so. I only have 100g of this particular fibre, but perhaps I could stripe it with something else, because I’d love to knit a shawl out if it :)

Polwarth Baby Alpaca Handspun

Polwarth Baby Alpaca Handspun

My current spinning project! This colour makes me so happy, and the yarn has some thick-and-thin:ness to it, which I love :)

The fibre is a very delicious 60% polwarth, 40% baby alpaca blend from Picperfic, in the Trish colourway. I love these gorgeous rich shades of burgundy, plum, cerise and raspberry :) The spindle is my favourite one, from IST Crafts.

Yesterday I found out that the skein of Malabrigo Nube handspun yarn I entered into Malabrigo’s Stockpile 2013 You Can Do It Contest won the Popular Vote! Totally unexpected and hugely surprising, I’m stunned but absolutely overjoyed and deeply grateful..! :) I don’t yet know what the prize will be, but I’m guessing yarn or spinning fibre, yay! :)
