Fauxlags!

Superwash Merino Fauxlags

Fauxlags

Today I learned how to make and spin fauxlags, and had a massive aha!-moment :)

I used superwash merino top and a 15mm wooden knitting needle. My mind is still blown by how amazingly lofty the sample yarn turned out!

The Yarn I Won! :)

Malabrigo Lace

Malabrigo Lace

Here’s the prize I won in the Malabrigo Stockpile 2013 competition, that I mentioned earlier :)

Malabrigo Lace in the colourways Lavanda (semi-solid purple) and Archangel — I think they’re gorgeous :) I’ve used Malabrigo Lace before, and I love it, so I’m very very happy!

I haven’t yet decided what I’ll use them for. A stripey shawl perhaps, something like Dream Stripes? Or maybe I’ll design something new… we’ll see.

What would you make, if these two skeins were yours?

Do you remember the yarn I showed you the other day, my first attempt at dyeing self striping sock yarn? Here’s what it looks like knit up :)

I’m using 1.75mm/US00 needles, and the design is my own.

This Week I Am…

Shiva

This week I am:

(re)listening to the recordings from Adyashanti’s study course, that I took part in last month (absolutely brilliant!);

eating red bell peppers and crackers/savoury biscuits;

reading the vampire novel Sunshine by Robin McKinley, and I’m really enjoying it;

(re)watching the tv-series Legend of the Seeker, which definitely holds up to lots and lots of rewatches (love, Love, LOVE!);

looking forward to Maggie Stiefvater’s novel Sinner (to be released 1 July 2014), a stand-alone sequel to the Shiver trilogy;

wishing this bloody legal process would be over already, and that they will decide in my favour;

contemplating what it’s like to open up and staying open while the body is shutting down;

learning how to hand dye self striping sock yarn (yay! so much fun!);

knitting a pair of self striping socks in 4ply/fingering weight yarn;

golluming over my new camera! :) what a wonderful, fabulous, amazing b’day pressie!;

drinking masala chai and vanilla matcha latte.

Self Striping Sock Yarn!

Because the Night

Because the Night

Here’s my very first attempt at hand dyeing self striping yarn for socks! I’m super happy with how it came out :)

Vampire inspired :) Four colours, 6 rows each in my fave gauge for 4ply/fingering weight socks.

I had so many other ideas for colours and colour combos before I finally decided on this one, so I have a feeling this might be the first in a little collection :) The ‘Mystic Falls’ collection, perhaps? ;)

The yarn base is Super Sock from Bluefaced (425m/100g ; 75% superwashed bluefaced leicester, 25% nylon), and it’s absolutely gorgeous! I love Love LOVE it :) I will most definitely be using it again! I used acid dyes, as usual.

I already have a sock design in mind, can’t wait to get it on the needles..! :)

Currently Spinning…

Enid Ascroft Turkish Spindle

Enid Ashcroft Turkish Spindle

I was gifted this adorable little spindle for my birthday, and I couldn’t wait to start using it! :)

It’s a Mini Turkish Spindle in African Padauk with a Tulipwood shaft, made by Enid Ashcroft, and it’s absolutely gorgeous! It weighs only 15g, isn’t it cute! :) It spins very evenly and for a very long time, it’s really really lovely.

The fibre is 70% merino, 30% mulberry silk top from All the Pretty Fibers on Etsy. Wonderful colours, beautifully dyed, and it drafts beautifully too.

I’m aiming for a thin, worsted style 2-ply yarn this time, hopefully 4ply/fingering weight or so. I only have 100g of this particular fibre, but perhaps I could stripe it with something else, because I’d love to knit a shawl out if it :)
