International M.E. Awareness Day

Be aware of invisibility

Today, May 12th, is International M.E. Awareness Day.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (ME) is an infectious neurological/autoimmune illness of extraordinarily incapacitating dimensions that affects virtually every bodily system.

Why is it so incredibly important to spread awareness of this particular disease? Continue reading to find out…

More Eye Pillows

Eye pillows

Eye pillows

Therapeutic eye pillows made from scrap pieces of fabric and ribbons from India, filled with rice. They are wonderful to place over closed eyes during meditation and deep relaxation. By blocking out light and adding gentle pressure they soothe, calm the nervous system, and help relieving tension in the muscles around the eyes.

One of them is lightly scented with nag champa oil, the other ones are scentless.

Fun to make, and very useful too :)

Brioche Infinity Scarf

Brioche Infinity Scarf

Brioche Infinity Scarf

I just finished knitting this infinity scarf, and I’m super happy! It’s fluffy and snuggly, and the colour is beyond amazing :) Unfortunately the colour seems to be a bit camera shy… it’s a much darker and richer raspberry shade of magenta than the picture shows, deeply saturated with a wonderful sheen. Simply delish..!

Pattern: Brioche Infinity Scarf by Unnur Eva Arnarsdóttir.
Yarn: Fyberspates Scrumptious Dk/Worsted, Magenta.
Needles: 7 mm.
Size: 20 x 180 cm (circumference).

Mystic Shawl

Mystic Shawl

Mystic Shawl

Here’s another shawl I’ve knitted. Deliciously snuggly, wonderfully soft, heavy and very very warm  and comforting :)

The pattern is called Mystic Shawl, designed by Kathy Oliver of Scarlet Fleece, and is available for free on Ravelry. It’s knit side-to-side, which gives the triangular shape lovely and slightly unusual proportions.

The yarn I chose is one of my absolute favourites, Blue Sky Alpacas Bulky, colourway Black Bear, on 15 mm (US 19) circular needles.

The finished size (unblocked) is 190 x 80 cm, and I’m very very happy with the result!

Aromatherapy Eye Pillow

Aromatherapy Eye Pillow

Aromatherapy Eye Pillow

This is an aromatherapy eye pillow I made last night. I was feeling very emotional and inspired, full of gratitude and joy, and was looking for a creative way to express it. India came to mind, like so often, and discovering these scrap pieces of fabric and ribbon in my wardrobe made me very happy :)

The magenta coloured front side is decorated with a sparkly ribbon (bought at Bombay’s Crawford Market a few years ago), and I chose a simple but soft black fabric for the back. I didn’t use a pattern, just improvised as I went along.

It’s filled with rice, which I scented with a few drops of two of my absolute favourite essential oils: frangipani and jasmine (a memento from Chiang Mai, Thailand). So so delicious :)

I love everything about it, can’t wait to use it!

Stripe Study Shawl Knitalong: Again!

Stripe Study Shawl

Stripe Study Shawl

Just wanted to let my knitalong friends know that I’ve started my second Stripe Study Shawl now! It’s such a joy to be knitting with soft yarn again :)

This yarn (Drops Loves You; 50% cotton, 50% microfiber) is very splitty, but I’d choose splitty over scratchy any day..!

Stay inspired, lovelies

Stripe Study Shawl Knitalong: Week 2

Stripe Study Shawl

This pattern is so lovely to knit, I’ve really been enjoying it :) And yes, it has definitely helped me get over my dislike towards garter stitch — yay!

I started on the border several days ago, and since then it seems like I’ve been knitting quicksand… the rows are infinitely long, and the progress so so slooow…

38 Similarities Between Vampirism and M.E.

Vampire

I find it absolutely heart-breaking that so many ME sufferers refer to themselves as ‘living dead’ people… Myalgic encephalomyelitis sure is a deeply debilitating, horrifying, painful and extremely difficult illness to live with, and although I don’t share their view about lifelessness (despite being severly affected by ME myself) I do understand where it’s coming from…

If macabre humour makes you uncomfortable or upset then this post might not be for you, so please stop reading now.
