What is Mind Control?

...

Forever blowing bubbles...

A beautiful realization happened last night, while I was watching ‘Enlighten Up!’, a documentary about yoga.

Somewhere about halfways into the film the team goes to Mysore, India, to visit Sri Pattabhi Jois at the Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute. When asked what yoga is, he says:

Yoga means your mind controlling capacity, taking practice, that is yoga.
Yoga is chitta vritti nirodha. Chitta means mind control. Now your mind is not control[ling] you.

Love is Already Here

I stumbled across an absolutely wonderful source of inspiration on Twitter today: The Love Foundation. Love is for sharing, so here’s some unconditional love wisdom that has caught me with its rare beauty and depth.

While the mind often wanders, the heart remains in love.

You light up the world with your love.

Each moment we remember love we forget fear.

When the ah ha moment becomes the ha ha moment… we are free.

When we feel separate from love, simply step back until the love that is present becomes obvious.

I’m just after watching the Hindi (Bollywood) film Karthik Calling Karthik, and I am absolutely amazed. It’s one of the best films I’ve seen in a long time, I already love it to bits! Can’t wait to watch it again…

Undress Me

my beloved magician
conjuring worlds out of nothing
i’ve revelled in your illusions
enjoyed the magic tricks

but everything is different now
just one peek behind the curtain
and all i long for is to be
your vanishing act

Crossing Paths Again

Reflections...Mirror, mirror in the sky… tell me, who am I?

In the summer of ’07 a friend of mine lent me a couple of books on Advaita Vedanta and Sufi poetry. This was my very first encounter with Sri Ramana Maharishi, and also the first time I fell in love with the poetry of Rumi. Ever since then, I keep falling in love with Rumi’s words…

In Shiva’s Tumble-Drier

om

I am out of words to describe the beauty, intensity and essence of my recent three months stay in India. It was a truly magical journey, and the spirit of the experience as a whole still lingers very close to my heart… Had I written a postcard from Tiruvannamalai, this is what it would have said:

I’m at a loss for words… sitting on rooftops, sipping chai and keeping quiet…

Cloud Cover Thick

Srinagar, Kashmir

Srinagar, Kashmir

Late, by myself, in the boat of myself,
no light and no land anywhere,
cloud cover thick. I try to stay
just above the surface,
yet I’m already under
and living with the ocean.

Nothing Seemed Right

You’ve no idea how hard I’ve looked for a gift to bring you.
Nothing seemed right.

What’s the point of bringing gold to the gold mine, or water to the ocean?
Everything I came up with was like taking spices to the orient.

It’s no good giving my heart and my soul, because you already have these.

So, I’ve brought you a mirror.
Look at yourself and remember me.

I’m a big lover of books, and although the ultimate Truth can’t be captured by mere words… some really do seem to come close! The following ones are my current top favourites when it comes to non-duality (or whatever you want to call it). These books are all filled to the brim with beautiful and clear pointers, heartfelt poetry, stunning insights and gorgeous inspiration. Each and every single one of them is highly and warmly recommended. Enjoy!
